Did you hike it when it was legal? Probably not. Did you get to the stairs before the security guard showed up even before the sun? That was the game back then - show up before the guard and you were good. Show up after and get turned away. The stairs are more akin to ladders. Were you scared? How confident were you with every step as the metal below you creaked and groaned beneath you? Did you go for the record going up or down or did you just want to survive? The views from the pill box at the top, looking down on the windward side of Oahu were breathtaking, especially in the bright, sparkley morning sunlight.

 

Now, unfortunately, it's much different with trespassing charges, fines, and serious talks of ripping the stairs off the cliffs. Help support the stairs!!
