Hawaii - Haleakala from Paia Town, Maui

You've conquered the legendary climb that lures cyclists from all corners of the world! Starting from sea level, the climb's gradient is mostly gentle (5-6%), with a few challenging stretches near the many hairpin turns as you ascend 36 miles of paved road to reach the summit of Haleakala volcano at 10,023 feet. Breaking through the clouds and taking in the panoramic view of Maui from above was a sight to behold, but nothing compared to the surreal experience of peering into the volcanic crater that felt like stepping foot on Mars. The clear weather allowed you to catch glimpses of the towering peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island from the summit!
