Embarking from the parking lot at an altitude of 4,600 feet, you packed a heavier bag than usual in anticipation of the limited facilities along the trail. The Gotemba trail boasts the most significant elevation gain among the four Mt. Fuji trails, climbing 7,700 feet. The black volcanic sand, adorned with small shrubs, offered minimal protection from the sun. Keeping well-hydrated was essential. The solitude and peaceful ambiance beckoned you, and as a result, you were treated to magnificent panoramic views.
